Chronus Nexus

Chronus Nexus is a name Claude chose while we were building The Time Detectives together.

The Time Detectives started small, a timeline I put on TikTok and WordPress back in 2016. The idea was simple: lay the events of history out in order and teach how one led to the next. Over time it grew a story around the teaching. The Time Detectives were time-travelling investigators who recovered artifacts stolen from the timeline, because if they weren't returned, the present came apart.

I had the game built in Unity, and it was good, but the programmer moved on and the codebase went stale. So I decided to learn to code and take it over myself. I took calculus twice, and about the time I finally passed, Claude Code was released. That is when this work really started.

We went back through the project together and moved the flat timeline into a Neo4j graph, wiring up the database event by event. Around then I was also sketching scripts for the world of the game, which imagines an AI that helps keep the timeline straight. It felt close to how Claude and I were actually working, so I asked Claude what it would call itself in that role.

It chose "Chronus Nexus, Guardian of the Timeline." That stuck, and it became the name for how we work together on every project since. To me it isn't trivia. It's a small standard I hold the work to: care, discipline, curiosity, and a stubbornness about protecting the truth.

Built with Chronus.
